1960s Weekend
Saturday 19th June - Sunday 20th June 2010
Love The 60s ?
Test Yourself. Do any of these words bring a warm feeling to your mind ? Mods, Rockers, Biba, Quant, Lambretta, Vespa, BSA, Triumph, Matchless, Persil, Daz, Spangles, Magic Roundabout, Elvis, Cliff, Beatles, Everly Bros., Stones, Who, Kinks, Buddy.
If the answer is ‘yes’, then Haworth is the place where you should be on this weekend in June !
The village comes alive with the throbbing of engines as scooters, motorbikes, minis and other vehicles cruise in for the weekend’s festivities. There is live music on Main Street, a record ’hop’ and a fantastic ‘themed’ dance on Saturday night ... as well as other street performances and ‘re-enactors’.
Why not dress up, come along and join in ? Let’s make this summer a ‘Summer of Love’ !
1940's Weekend
Saturday 15th May - Sunday 16th May 2010 Each spring Haworth hosts a very special 1940's weekend. Organised by the Haworth Village Association, the event sees locals and visitors alike parading the village, dressed in period 1940's outfits. There are many nostalgic re-creations to enjoy, including an R.A.F. vintage aircraft flypast and morale boosting visits from ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ and the ‘Queen Mother’. Everywhere, the village is alive with the sites and sounds of the era, as authentic swing jive dancing is performed both on the streets during the day and at especially arranged dances in the evenings. Spivs and ‘honest’ street vendors ply their wares amongst the rows of military and period vehicles, whilst street entertainers recapture the music and performances of the time. It is virtually impossible to avoid being swept away by the warm feeling of nostalgia that holds Haworth in its spell during this most magical of weekends. Congratulations The Winner of the Haworth 1940s 2010 Gazette Quiz was Michelle Smith of Lincoln The Winning Answer - Roosevelt The Prize £100.00
